The trend continues, though I can't say I didn't do any work... I just didn't take any pictures.
I keep forgetting to do this, which is probably better than spending the huge amount of time I did before hamming out updates for the website that had no real impact on making the games.
As usual, scale models I made instead of working on game development: Yeah yeah I'm workin' on it sort of, maybe there were some distractions Uncommon ValorI played a lot of this. Many test games with quite a few different people. It is definitely ghetting more refined. The issue is in these games, most were with new people... so no vehicles. Then, I decided to build up a logging outpost to do some fighting with vehicles in Eastern Europe or something using my 3mm stuff. I did play a lot on there, too, but the vehicle rules are still in flux. However, there were a lot of big changes that have made the game way easier to play. Most of these were changes in terminology or how to read dice outcomes and stuff, which just streamlined everything. Same for how to use the morale system. It's all much more uniform-feeling now. So no, I didn't finish the vehicle rules. But the game is definitely in better shape than before. We also played in 3mm, 15mm and 28mm and everything works just fine. I also did a rules swap with somebody else who went through the book thoroughly, so it's definitely been tightened up overall. But no, the vehicle rules still aren't where I want them. Skies Far BeyondI have played the "two F-86s protecting a troop transport" scenario so many times now it's astonishing, but I have to concede it remains interesting. That's probably positive. There were a few big changes here based off feedback. The biggest thing was a simple tweak: it now requires more of a resource for players to perform a reaction, which has reduced the number of them that occur and subsequently sped up gameplay quite a bit. I was lucky that somebody offhand mentioned this, because it's been a big and important change. The combat is much deadlier now with pilots having much less opportunity to try to save themselves, and thinking ahead is far more valuable than diving into a furball and hoping you can weave around it now. I also went throught he rulebook and slashed and burned stuff that doesn't get much use, then reformatted it a bit (not too much!). It's down from 106 pages to 80. Not bad. A lot fo that is the two-column format, but whatever. Pages is pages. Goals for October/NovemberWell... this is easy.
It's been a while. I did take something of a break and reduced my time spent on developing projects for a while to do some other things (a lot of playing Bullet Heart, a lot of scale model construction, and other miscellaneous wastes of time) but I never actually stopped working. All the projects in the pipeline are still under construction and I hope to finish them someday, so we'll do a reassessment here.
The last two months have been ok for progress, but not in the way I'd been hoping for. I ended up getting distracted from one of my projects to start another (which I as usual believed would be short, in a delusional way). I did, however, finish building this Starfighter, which was not a fun kit but I am reasonably pleased with the end result. I am also getting very close to finishing my entire backlog of Privateer Press miniatures. But neither of these seem to have much impact on my games, so let's get to that.
Wow, it's been a while. I have been getting a lot of work done while away, but just kept forgetting to do this to help keep myself on track. I'm sure this contributed to a considerable Gundam Breaker 3 binge, but things are getting back to normal now. Most of my time in the last two months has been spent working on Skies Far Beyond, which has made an enormous amount of progress and had some big changes. I also did get to play quite a few games, including one where the two separate groups crossed over and played a single unified game. It went until 3am but it was pretty cool. It was also probably the worst possible time to introduce some of the big rule changes, but I still did it and they worked. I also continued to work on my scale model backlog, which unfortunately ended up growing this year instead of shrinking thanks to my newfound interest in doing planes. Despite being a very busy month, I still didn't manage to meet my goals. But I got a lot done on one game.
Welp... I did get all the planned goals complete, even if the bar was pretty low. Goals since the last report (which was a compressed schedule due to neglect):
Given I ended up getting really interested in playing the Pokemon TCG of all things, thanks to my family. It is fun and cheap so it works for me. I managed to screw up the simple objective of playing some games from last month. Things didn't go great. I did make a lot of progress on Danger Close, but everything else was stalled by scheduling issues. The SFB campaigns are set to resume next week, so that will be a plus. The rest of this is all about Danger Close.
Better late than never, though admittedly it has been a pretty rough month so not much to report. Because of various issues, I spent the month focused on working on scale models and painting miniatures, with almost no opportunities to play games with other people and limited chances to play solitaire. The worst bit is I haven't pulled out the lightbox so I don't even have pictures.
